It can be difficult for a new silhouette to cut through the noise and make an impact, but that’s exactly what happened with the New Balance 327. Making its debut through a collaboration with Parisian-based Casablanca at Fashion Week, the new addition to the Boston brand’s roster was instantly praised by the sneaker community and fashion community alike due to its retro, 70s inspired design.

New Balance 327 Sizing: How Do They Fit?
This rise of the New Balance 327 has really been quite something to behold. Despite its retro aesthetic, some might be surprised to learn this ragi...
The brainchild of designer Charlotte Lee, the NB 327 blends the brand’s archival DNA and rich heritage with a forward-thinking ethos and contemporary design. Taking inspiration from 70’s styles such as the New Balance 320 and 325, taking the large ‘N’ logo from the former and the circular lug outsole from the latter. Forgoing advanced cushioning systems and over-complicated tech, the 327 embodies minimalist comfort and lightweight wearability for all-day use. The most eye-catching detail of this sneaker is the asymmetrical design, which was inspired by the mash-up process used when designing this sneaker.
Unlike many of New Balance’s iconic silhouettes, what set the 327 apart was its use of colour. Whilst most NB releases stayed true to the greys which defined the brand, the 327 released initially in a range of bright, bold, summer-ready colourways. The first colourways of the Casablanca x New Balance collaboration were perfect examples of this, and it’s something the general releases of the 327s have continued with colourways such as “Chive Avocado” or “Leopard Sea Salt”.
With the New Balance 327, Charlotte Lee was keen to discover a balance between the old and new to create something timeless and wearable. Four years later and the silhouette is as popular as ever and remains a staple in many sneaker rotations, so we think it’s safe to say she achieved that goal.
