The Roundel x NikeLab Air Zoom Spiridon White is a striking silhouette with distinctive lettering and numbers across the upper. If that looks strangely familiar then don’t be surprised as this shoe pays homage to a classic typeface. Known as Johnston100, this font has been used by the Transport of London (TFL) for the last 100 years. NikeLAB use that heritage for this inspired pack which is set to feature two silhouettes.
This pair opts for the lightest colourway with a fresh white base complimented by a tonal coloured midsole. First launched in 1997, the Spiridon was the first of its kind to include an Air Zoom System. It wasn’t long before the shoe gained cult status not only for its performance but for the sports inspired look. It was way ahead of its time and looks just as relevant today as it did back in the 90s.
Similarly, that simplistic font created in 1916 by Edward Johnston still retains a timeless look that’s both contemporary and classic. Chosen to feature across all of the Transport for London subsidiaries, this lettering has become an iconic part of the capital.
Not surprisingly, this famed typeface looks impressive against an iconic sneaker. It’s complimented by a metallic silver Swoosh to the sidewall, lightweight mesh across the upper and an integrated lacing system. Finally, silver coloured piping weaves from heel to toe.
The Roundel x NikeLab Air Zoom Spiridon White is scheduled to release on Saturday 3rd December via the retailers listed. We’ll be covering this collection extensively over the following weeks.
