Nike just revealed a pony hair iteration of the Air Rift.
Split-toe silhouettes have been increasingly popular in the 2020s, and while Maison Margiela’s Tabis and a collective interest in Japanese aesthetics started the movement, the design has been embraced by the wider fashion world and we’ve been seeing it a lot in sneakers. In 2022, Nike re-released its Air Rift silhouette from the ‘90s, adding on to the trend, and since the Rift’s return from the archives we’ve seen it transform in different iterations (and a collab with Skims) and more Tabi sneakers by Asics and Vans.

Now, the split-toe Air Rift is getting a wintery makeover, combining the popular silhouette with an equally trending texture. The pony hair craze slowly entered the footwear space a few years ago with the Wales Bonner x adidas Samba “Pony” back in 2023, and slowly cemented itself as the texture du jour with Puma, adidas, Nike and Axel Arigato tapping into the trend.

The pony-haired take of the shoe will be coming out in three colourways: Black, Dark Driftwood and Old Royal.
The Nike Air Rift “Pony Hair Pack” is landing at nike.com in the autumn.
