Awake NY x ASICS GEL-NYC Pure Silver Gothic Grape

Owner of Awake NY, Angelo Baque, has been consistent with his colourful take on the ASICS GEL series since the partnership began in 2019. Given the opportunity to create a new GEL-based silhouette, Baque headed sifted through the extensive GEL archive, dropping these two colourways of the GEL-NYC. Crafted with “the essence of where we started with ASICS”, Awake NY looks to breathe life into the new shoe so that sneakerheads can learn to love the new addition to the GEL family.

The upper on the GEL-NY adopts two colours that have been typical of Awake NY’s collaborations, purple and gold. Combined, the shades give off a regal appearance and even subtly nod to the colour scheme made famous by basketball royalty, the LA Lakers. The silver mesh underlays the panelling just like on the “Teal Pink” pair, nodding to the sporting background that the original GEL series were designed for. Quality on this “Purple” pair is stellar, its deep purple suedes and gold accents giving the release a premium edge. Providing top-notch comfort for the GEL-NY is the Fluidride sole, the tooling taken from the GEL-CUMULUS 16, a favourite running shoe from 2016.
