Designed by Shigeyuki Mitsui, the Asics Gel Lyte 3 was a departure from more performance based footwear and instead create a shoe which would be loved by athletes and streetwear fans alike.
The silhouette has remained so popular within the sneaker community due to its long history and classic design. It is a favourite of many influential figures, including Ronnie Fieg who has collaborated on the shoe many times with his brand Kith.
The original designer of the Gel Lyte 3, Shigeyuki Mitsui, continued to design new releases of the shoe right up until 2020 when he unfortunately retired.
