Cecilie Bahnsen x ASICS GT-2160 Pure Silver

Teaming up once again, Cecilie Bahnsen’s floral touch could be exactly what the new ASICS GT-2160 needs. Having exclusively dropped a small run of 50 “one of a kind” ASICS silhouettes through the Cecilie Bahnsen website in October of ’22, fans will be pleased to hear of the brand's return, especially given the news of a larger release. Chosen as one of the collaborators to introduce ASICS’ GT-2160 retro, this hyper-feminine take on this 2010s performance runner is another great example of the creativity that smaller luxury clothing brands have to offer. Given the current trend in silver footwear, this “Pure Silver” edition has certainly stirred up a lot of interest.

Merging together a technical running silhouette with the iconic Mary Jane shoe, Bahnsen expertly weaves the worlds of performance and couture. Synthetic leather overlays are dressed in silver, while underneath, the usual mesh is replaced with a delicate semi-translucent rip-stop upper. A white floral-based decal is printed onto the underlay, acting here like a decorative camo. The standard padded tongue is nowhere to be seen as a heavily embossed strap and a set of low-rising laces take its place. The open-toe feature is a nod to the typical aesthetic of the Mary Jane shoe, which along with the somewhat see-through upper, exposes the wearer’s sock. Co-branding is kept to a minimum, with a simple wordmark on the sock liner detailing Cecilie Bahnsen’s presence on the project. Here, the worlds of techy runners and the silver footwear trend merge, perfectly capturing the mood in 2023.

In a similar vein to the Sandy Liang x Salomon collaboration, or even ASICS’ GEL-Quantum Lylia, you can expect this Cecilie Bahsen capsule to be highly sought after.
