With just a few months of 2023 left to go, ASICS continues to lead the charge in sportstyle footwear, proving once again that its collaboration strategy is second to none. Having shifted its focus from the GEL-Kayano 14, the Japanese sneaker brand has been looking to make waves with its GT-2160 model, tapping the likes of Dime and Cecilie Bahnsen for their takes on the silhouette. Now, ASICS looks to continue its foray into the streetwear scene, as early images of the Gallery Dept. x ASICS GT-2160 have surfaced online.
Though the images are scarce right now, small glimpses of the upcoming collab reveal some of the more specific details, such as co-branded hits on the insoles and uppers, in the LA-based brand’s signature yellow shade. Other photos reveal early peeks at the shoe’s mesh makeup, which boasts hues of blue, black and silver - no real surprises there.
Now, the interesting bit. Some may remember that an initial unofficial Gallery Dept. x ASICS GEL-Lyte III surfaced a little while ago, and pairs were handpainted by the brand’s founder, Josué Thomas. If this rings a bell, you’ll no doubt also remember the hefty price tag attached to them, as they would set you back nearly £500 at retail. If the rumours are to be believed, then the upcoming Gallery Dept. x GT-2160 is also expected to sport similar paint splashes, so be sure to get saving if you’re thinking of picking up a pair later this year.
The "Blue/Silver" ASICS x Gallery Dept. GT-2160 is expected to drop on Gallery Dept.'s site later sometime over the next couple of months, but be sure to hit the release reminders to be the first to know if they drop at ASICS, too. In the meantime, New Balance is readying a collab with the Whitaker Group.
