The adidas Ozweego is something of an enigma in the sneaker community. With the original launch back in 1996, Raf Simons took over the silhouette in 2013 with the 3-Stripes bringing it back once again in 2019. What makes this shoe an enigma is that none of the Ozweegos look the same, all we do know is, they are all incredible.
First releasing as a lightweight running shoe in '96, it boasted adiPRENE technology that offered all-day comfort. Rounded off with mesh overlays and 3-Stripe branding on the side-wall, it's clear to see why this sneaker was so revered.
Throughout the late '90s, adidas rolled out various new models of the Ozweego. The Ozweego 2 hit shelves in '97, followed by the Ozweego 3 in '98, and finally the Ozweego 4 in '99.
Fast-forward to 2013, 15 years after its original release, Raf Simons took the silhouette and made it his own. Giving it his traditional premium spin with a chunky midsole full of cushioning, a support tube at the forefoot and premium materials, this shoe soon became a staple of the high-fashion scene. adidas and Raf Simons released a number of gorgeous colourways but perhaps the most popular was the 2017 Ozweego Bunny, which had a very OFF-WHITE aesthetic.
Raf Simons' Ozweego collaboration is credited for popularising the chunky trainer which continues to dominate footwear trends today.
